Kristiansund, Norway

Have you ever been to a city centre in the middle of the sea?

The city of Kristiansund is situated on four different islands. But don’t worry – in minutes, the tiny ferry Sundbåten will take you between Kirkelandet, Innlandet, Nordlandet and Gomalandet. Ask the skipper to let you off at the Milnbrygga wharf, where you can visit the Norwegian Clipfish Museum. Clipfish and bacalao are still staple foods in the region. Get a taste of some of the freshest seafood at Smia Fiskerestaurant. Located in a house from 1787, it is one of the most unique eateries in town. Speaking of food from the region – you need to try the award-winning cheeses from Tingvollost, especially “Kraftkar”, which has been named the world’s best cheese!

Join the annual food festival Snadderfestivalen in June to really dig into the local food, drink the local craft beers, and taste the local aquavit, which is made on potatoes and seaweed.

Did you know that Kristiansund is home to the country’s oldest opera? With more than 100 performances a year, you can always catch a show. Every year in February, they arrange the popular festival Operafestukene, where you get served opera for breakfast, lunch and dinner for 17 days.

You should also join the Nordic Light Festival of Photography, where famous international and Norwegian photographers exhibit their pictures all over town, give lectures, and drink with the locals all through the night.

International Space Station with Maps

Beautiful video of Earth as seen from the International Space Station.  You will regularly see astronauts doing maintenance and upgrades to the station.

The International Space Station is a space station, or a habitable artificial satellite, in low Earth orbit. Its first component launched into orbit in 1998, the last pressurised module was fitted in 2011, and the station is expected to be used until 2028.

Development and assembly of the station continues, with components scheduled for launch in 2018 and 2019. The ISS is the largest human-made body in low Earth orbit and can often be seen with the naked eye from Earth. The ISS consists of pressurised modules, external trusses, solar arrays, and other components. ISS components have been launched by Russian Proton and Soyuz rockets, and American Space Shuttles.

The ISS serves as a microgravity and space environment research laboratory in which crew members conduct experiments in biology, human biology, physics, astronomy, meteorology, and other fields. The station is suited for the testing of spacecraft systems and equipment required for missions to the Moon and Mars.

The ISS maintains an orbit with an altitude of between 330 and 435 km (205 and 270 mi) by means of reboost manoeuvres using the engines of the Zvezda module or visiting spacecraft. It completes 15.54 orbits per day.

The ISS programme is a joint project among five participating space agencies: NASA, Roscosmos, JAXA, ESA, and CSA.

Bird Feeder, Maine, USA

This is Ryans Bird Buffet which will run in place of the deer cams through the Summer and the deer cams will be back on December 16th 2020.

This camera is powered by Brownville's Food Pantry For Deer, which runs through the winter months to assist the local Deer population. To support the project and help to buy food for the Deer, please visiit: https://www.gofundme.com/brownville039s-food-pantry-for-deer

The Brownville Food Pantry For Deer feeds approximately 400 pounds per day of native oats (local) to help sustain the white-tailed deer population through rough winters here in central Maine.

Feeding happens daily around 14: 00 (2 PM) Eastern Standard Time starting December 16 and continues to the beginning of April. These are wild deer and this is not a deer farm.  Some of the deer have been coming for more than 10 years including a piebald deer with more white markings than a normal white-tailed deer.

At times there are 100 to 200 deer at the pantry.  Wild turkeys also come and eat the native oats along side the deer.  At times you may see up to 100 wild turkeys at once.

Måløy, Vågsøy, Norway

Sheltered on the east side of the island of Vågsøy, Måløy is a major exporter of Norway's treasured seafood

A charming village, with a population of just over 3,000 people, Måløy is the administrative centre of the municipality of Vågsøy. While the town is small, it has huge facilities for preserving and processing fish. Every year, 180,000-200,000 tonnes of fish are brought ashore here and then exported directly abroad.  You can see the schedule for the ships entering and leaving the port here

Vågsøy has several unique characteristics. In addition to Måløy town centre and its many lighthouses, the area is known for the well-known Kannestenen rock, molded by the sea over thousands of years into a spectacular mushroom-like shape. Also, for lazy summer days, you'll find a beautiful silver sand beach.  Some say it's the most beautiful in Norway. Adding to its local attractions, Måløy is close to several famous national attractions like the Jostedalsbreen National Park - where you will find the largest glacier in continental Europe.

History
Legend has it that Viking King Magnus the Good went ashore on the small island of Moldøen in 1035. From here he summoned all the peasants in the area to "thing" (meaning assembly of free men). His father St. Olav had been fighting these peasants for a long time, but Magnus wanted peace and promised them better laws and more freedom. The island was then named Málstefna, literally "speaking stone".

This was later modernized to Moldøen. Måløy was originally founded as a trading centre on this small island. As trade flourished, the town gradually moved to the larger island of Vågsøy, while keeping the name of the smaller island. This is the cause of some confusion, although the smaller island is today often known as "Lisje-Måløyna" (the smaller Måløy). Måløy became an official town in 1997.

Kiel Harbour, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany

The Port of Kiel is one of the most versatile ports in the Baltic region. Its geographic location, permanent depth for seagoing vessels and the direct link to the national rail and road network make the port very attractive for cargo and passenger traffic alike. State-of-the-art terminal facilities and a high service quality enable an individual approach. Furthermore, Kiel profits from its location at the entrance to the world's most frequented artificial waterway, the Kiel Canal.

Kiel lies approximately 90 kilometres (56 mi) north of Hamburg. Due to its geographic location in the north of Germany, the southeast of the Jutland peninsula and the southwestern shore of the Baltic Sea, Kiel has become one of the major maritime centres of Germany.

The city is known for a variety of international sailing events, including the annual Kiel Week, which is the biggest sailing event in the world. The Olympic sailing competitions of the 1936 and the 1972 Summer Olympics were held in Bay of Kiel.

Masjid al-Haram, Makkah, Saudi Arabia

Makkah (also spelled Mecca) is the holiest city in Islam, located in the western region of Saudi Arabia. It is home to the Masjid al-Haram, the Grand Mosque, which houses the Kaaba — the most sacred site in Islam. Each year, millions of Muslims travel to Makkah for the Hajj pilgrimage, one of the five pillars of Islam, as well as for Umrah throughout the year. While non-Muslims are not permitted to enter the city, for Muslim travelers it offers a deeply spiritual and historical experience. The city is steeped in centuries of religious tradition, with ancient routes, hills, and historic mosques all playing a part in Islamic history.

One of Makkah’s most iconic modern landmarks is the Abraj Al Bait Towers, a complex of skyscrapers just steps away from the Grand Mosque. The centerpiece of this complex is the Makkah Royal Clock Tower, one of the tallest buildings in the world. Towering at over 600 meters, it features a massive clock face visible from miles away, and lights up dramatically at night. The tower also houses the Clock Tower Museum, which showcases Islamic history, astronomy, and the development of timekeeping. The Abraj Al Bait complex includes luxury hotels, shopping centers, and prayer areas, making it a central hub for visiting pilgrims.

Punat, Krk Island, Croatia

Punat is a small town with 1,800 inhabitants, located on the southern coast of the island of Krk. The view of the town, whether it is approached from the sea or land, is unusual: the town is hedged in by the coast with an extremely deep bay called Puntarska draga, where a miniature island of Kosljun is located, along with a Franciscan monastery. Unreal beauty!

Punat is very proud of its olive tradition. Today, almost every family in Punat has its own olive grove and makes its own high quality olive oil. Every visitor who comes to Punat will find this easy to believe, since the access road to Punat is going through a corridor of perfect looking olive groves.

Sendai Station, Sendai, Japan

仙台マークワン屋上

With roughly one million inhabitants, Sendai (仙台) is by far the largest city in the Tohoku Region and one of the country's 15 largest cities.  The modern city of Sendai was founded around 1600 by Date Masamune, one of feudal Japan's most powerful lords.  Many of Sendai's tourist attractions are related to Masamune and his family.

Sendai was the closest major city to the epicenter of the earthquake of March 11, 2011.  The tsunami devastated the city's coastal outskirts but did not cause major damage in the city center.  Virtually all tourist spots reopened within a few months of the earthquake.

Less than an hour northeast of the city center lies the town of Matsushima, whose bay is dotted by pine clad islets and is known for one of Japan's three most scenic views.

The three linked towers are nearly 150 metres high, forming a ‘vertical city’ of high-class flats, a 4-star hotel, offices, shops, restaurants, fitness and parking facilities.
