Wilson, North Carolina’s story has captivated the imagination of the country. Farm machinery repairman, Vollis Simpson, began making gigantic kinetic sculptures at his family farm in Wilson County when he was nearing retirement age. He kept making his “whirligigs”–seven days a week–until about six months before he dies at the age of 94 in May of 2013. By that time he was famous. The story of Wilson’s campaign to use the renowned whirligigs to recharge its downtown has catapulted the community into the national spotlight. Grants from ArtPlace America, the Kresge Foundation, and the National Endowment for the Arts have helped the project come close to its goal of opening the Vollis Simpson Whirligig Park and Museum.

The mainland portion of the airport opened as a military aerodrome in 1923, and commenced civilian joint use as Omura Airport (大村空港) in 1955.
The current island runway and terminal opened on May 1, 1975. Although Nagasaki is superficially similar to Japan's other island airports, Kansai International Airport, Kobe Airport, Kitakyushu Airport, and Chūbu Centrair International Airport, Nagasaki's island existed (in a radically different shape) before the airport was constructed. Constructing the airport required flattening the island's hills and forming landfill around its shore, expanding it from 0.9 to 1.54 km2 (0.35 to 0.59 sq mi).

The Geirangerfjord is one of Norway's most visited tourist sites and has been included on the UNESCO World Heritage List, along with the Nærøyfjord, since 2005.
Along the sides of this magnificent fjord, there a number of abandoned farms. The farms that are most commonly visited are Skageflå, Knivsflå and Blomberg. Skageflå can also be reached on foot from Geiranger, while the others can only be seen from the fjord.
The fjord also has several impressive waterfalls. The two most notable waterfalls in the Geirangerfjord are ‘de Syv Søstre’ (the seven sisters) and ‘Friaren’ (the suitor, also called the wooer). The two waterfalls face one another across the fjord, and the suitor is said to be trying to woo the sisters opposite.
Brudesløret (the bridal veil) is another waterfall on the fjord, thus named because it falls delicately over one rocky edge, and when seen backlit by the sun looks like a thin veil over the rocks.

A live view of Oita Funai Castle Street in Oita, Japan. This camera is located at the Kuricchaan Private Library.
In a general library, scribbling on books or making notes is not allowed. The current situation is that such books are treated as worthless in any used bookstore. However, I believe that the true value of a book is born only when there are readers. Have you ever read a book and wanted to underline your favorite phrases or write down your thoughts?
Therefore, I thought that it would be interesting to have a "library where you can freely write notes on books", which led to the opening of the library. Of course, please refrain from posting notes that are offensive to public order and morals, but I would like to provide a place where you can feel the warmth of people and the thoughts of strangers through second-hand books, leaving evidence that people have picked them up.
There are already interesting notes and poems written on it, and you can immerse yourself in the thoughts of what kind of person the previous owner was. Please feel free to visit us. Even if you don't read books, please feel free to stop by when you feel a little tired from walking around the city, after work, or while waiting for the bus or train.

A Red-tailed Hawk pair has been nesting above Cornell University’s athletic fields since at least the 2012, making use of two different light towers for their nest sites. In 2012 and 2015, they used a tower near Fernow Hall, and in 2013, 2014, and 2016, they used the tower nearest Weill Hall. We installed cameras at both of these sites to get a better look at the intimate behavior of these well-known birds as they raise their young amid the bustle of a busy campus.
Red-tailed hawks are monogamous and may mate for life. They make stick nests high above the ground, in which the female lays one to five eggs each year. Both sexes incubate the eggs for four to five weeks, and feed the young from the time they hatch until they leave the nest about six weeks later.
Red-tailed Hawks, especially in the West, have highly variable plumage, including dark and rufous phases. They have long, broad wings and short, wide tails. Most have light breasts and dark streaks forming a mottled 'belly-band.' Most have dark brown heads. The underwings are mottled dark and light. All plumages of Red-tailed Hawks have a darkish band on the leading edges of the inner underwings, known as the 'patagial' markings. The upper side of the tail of most adult birds is deep rufous, although the Harlan's Red-tailed Hawk, a subspecies occasionally seen in Washington, has a light gray or banded tail. Light birds often have a faint white 'V' on their back-feathers that can be seen when they are perched. Juveniles lack the red tail.

The village and municipality of Dobrinj is located on the eastern part of the island of Krk, Croatia. Dobrinj is located on a 200 metre-high hill overlooking the beautiful Soline Bay.
The first written record of Dobrinj and the history of Dobrinjsko dates back to 1100. For centuries this was an extremely agricultural area. The people were occupied in cattle breeding and olive cultivation as well as in managing the wealth of the forest. Today, the village is famous for its picturesque traditional costumes, its folklore events, the sopele school (Krk’s wind instrument) and the traditional home-made cuisine. In the island’s centre, rocky houses and narrow rocky streets that breathe days gone by prevail.
Close to Dobrinj is the Biserujka cave which astonishes with its beauty and curiosity of its sediment shapes. It is the only cave on the island, among more than 50, that is organised for the reception of visitors. According to legend, the Biserjuka cave (biser-jewel) received its name from the treasure that was found in it, which belonged to the local pirates.

The Brownville Food Pantry For Deer feeds approximately 400 pounds per day of native oats (local) to help sustain the white-tailed deer population through rough winters here in central Maine.
Feeding happens daily around 14: 00 (2 PM) Eastern Standard Time starting December 16 and continues to the beginning of April. These are wild deer and this is not a deer farm. Some of the deer have been coming for more than 10 years including a piebald deer with more white markings than a normal white-tailed deer.
At times there are 100 to 200 deer at the pantry. Wild turkeys also come and eat the native oats along side the deer. At times you may see up to 100 wild turkeys at once.
There is no Chronic Wasting Disease, or CWD in wild deer in Maine. These deer are all very healthy and there has never been any type of disease spread among these deer. This "Yarding" of deer happens in Maine every winter, even if they were not being fed.

We use as much locally grown produce as possible and have relationships with many local fisherman who bring us their daily catch. On any given day you will see fresh Mahi, Wahoo, lobster and conch (when in season). Our chef has been chosen for several years to represent the Virgin Islands on the local Culinary Team, and has had lots of success in the competitions.
Next time you are on island swing by and say hi. Have one of our refreshing drinks, a quick sandwich for lunch, or a delicious entree for dinner! You will not be disappointed."

Haparanda has been the easternmost outpost of Sweden since 1809 when Finland was lost to Russia. Haparanda has always been an important trading post, this continues until this day with the world's northernmost IKEA store, bringing customers from all across the Barents region. It is a great gateway to the wild north of Scandinavia. Most people here speak all of Swedish, Finnish and English.
The two towns Haparanda and Tornio are a showcase of cooperation across the border. Not only is the border more or less invisible, with people living, shopping and working on either side, regardless of the other two, or nationality, but there are also e.g. shared police patrols, with one in a pair taking command and responsibility depending on what side of the border they happen to be at.

View of the Grand Tetons in Grand Teton National Park.
These magnificent mountains tower over a valley bisected by the Snake River. This beautiful valley, overlooked on the western edge by an impressive skyline, is known as Jackson Hole. The Teton Range dominates the landscape of the park.
The range began rising about 10 million years ago. Numerous earthquakes, up to a magnitude 7.5, released tension along the Teton fault building the mountains one step at a time. Each large earthquake breaks the ground by about ten feet dropping the valley floor three to four times as much as the mountains rise. The Grand Teton at 13,770 feet, towers about 7,000 feet above the valley floor suggesting the offset across the fault is up to 30,000 feet. The lack of foothills is due to the presence of the Teton fault.
Erosion fills the valley and carves the range crest forming the jagged Teton skyline. The rugged terrain and lack of foothills allures outdoor enthusiasts of all types to visit this area. Climbers summit at least 12 peaks in the Teton Range over 12,000 feet high with varying degrees of difficulty.

Castro Street is the seven blocks between Alma Street and El Camino. It is the most happening place in Mountain View. The commercial rents are not as expensive as other city areas which gives Castro Street a diverse mixture of interesting shops and venues.
This is a good area to hang out on a weekend to walk around & people watch, drink coffee, and browse some bookstores. There are plenty of restaurants, most of which have outdoor seating on the street. San Francisco's gay village is mostly concentrated in the business district that is located on Castro Street from Market Street to 19th Street. It extends down Market Street toward Church Street and on both sides of the Castro neighborhood from Church Street to Eureka Street.
Castro Street was named after José Castro (1808–1860), a Californian leader of Mexican opposition to U.S. rule in California in the 19th century, and alcalde of Alta California from 1835 to 1836.

When their tentacles touch tiny drifting prey, the stinging cells paralyze it and stick tight. The prey is moved to the mouth-arms and then to the mouth, where it's digested.

This live webcam overlooks a stretch of the Chūō Expressway near Moto-Hachiōjimachi, one of the key highway corridors linking Tokyo with the mountains of central Japan. From this view you can watch the steady flow of cars and trucks as they wind through the outskirts of Hachiōji, framed by greenery, overpasses, and the gently rising terrain that leads toward the Japanese Alps.
Traffic heading toward the top of the screen is bound for Yamanashi Prefecture, eventually reaching areas like Kōfu, Lake Kawaguchi, and the Mt. Fuji region. Vehicles travelling in the opposite direction are on their way back toward Tokyo, following one of the main commuter routes into the capital. It’s a great live snapshot of daily movement between the city and the countryside, sometimes calm, sometimes busy, always in motion.

Erasmus Bridge is a combined cable stayed and bascule bridge, construction began in 1986 and was completed in 1996. It crosses the nieuwe maas in the centre of Rotterdam, connecting the north and south parts of this city, the second largest city in the Netherlands. The bridge is 800 meters long and at its highest point, the bridge is 139 meters tall. With roughly one million inhabitants, Sendai (仙台) is by far the largest city in the Tohoku Region and one of the country's 15 largest cities. The modern city of Sendai was founded around 1600 by Date Masamune, one of feudal Japan's most powerful lords. Many of Sendai's tourist attractions are related to Masamune and his family.
Sendai was the closest major city to the epicenter of the earthquake of March 11, 2011. The tsunami devastated the city's coastal outskirts but did not cause major damage in the city center. Virtually all tourist spots reopened within a few months of the earthquake.
Less than an hour northeast of the city center lies the town of Matsushima, whose bay is dotted by pine clad islets and is known for one of Japan's three most scenic views.
The sun sets behind the temple and then it’s lit till 11.00. It looks beautiful in moonlight when the lights go out and, of course, it’s at its most dynamic in gales. At winds of over 60mph the temple is temporarily chained down.
Restless Temple – ride the storm
Temples are usually made of stone, stand still and glorify mortal and immortal power. I started to think about this temple in 2000, as a monument to our ambitious and precarious ingenuity – always at the mercy of the forces of Nature. This temple moves between the powers of wind and gravity.
Its columns are hollow, just a light cedar skin. The engineered strength is similar to that of a ship’s mast. A core of tensioned steel runs from temple top to the counterweights at the bottom.
It’s uncertain how long the temple will ride the storms and survive intact. Any decay is seen as part of its journey. Hopefully it will have time enough to attract plants, mosses and lichens.

Welcome to 長崎港 - The Nagasaki Port is a natural harbor that is surrounded by mountains on three sides. It opened in 1571, and developed through trading with foreign countries since the olden times. Thus, the impact of foreign trade is very evident in the streets, in their food culture as well as their events. Cruise ships entering the Nagasaki Port pass by under the Venus-Wing Bridge and head to the terminal in the center of the city. The pier houses Japan’s largest class CIQ (Customs, Immigration and Quarantine) facilities, and the terminal provides free Wi-Fi connection.
One of UNESCO’s World Heritage Site can be accessed within a walking distance from the pier, and some of the city’s major tourist areas can be accessed through the streetcars. Moreover, bus tours are available with itineraries including Huis Ten Bosch, Onsen, and Shimabara Castle.
