The Wolsztyn Experience Society runs footplate experience courses in Poland and has been doing so for the last 18 years. Membership to the society entitles you to participate in these footplate courses which are held on the last scheduled steam passenger service in the world. The society has accommodation for its members in Wolsztyn. Members are also allowed to drive and fire our narrow gauge locomotive at Gniezno and participate in our unique shunting courses at Jaworzyna Slaska.
Membership is included in your holiday/course booking fees, with discounts normally available to original and regular participants.
Whilst you will receive a safety briefing on arrival in Poland the society and PKP are not responsible for any injuries received whilst on the footplate or around railway property. The railways are unfenced and you cross the tracks at your own risk. After all, the risks are far less than on a skiing holiday. One should bear in mind that it is advisable to book your stay in Poland allowing a little spare time so that in the advent of loco failure or train cancellation you will receive the appropriate footplate time that you have booked. In the event of not achieving all your turns we will refund for the missed ones or supply a voucher to reduce the cost of a future visit. The society is not liable, in the case of a major interruption of steam services, for air fares or travel expenses in the UK. We recommend not downloading your airline check in form until 24 hrs, before travel, so in the case of a major steam problem you can re book for another time in which case we will pay the flight rebooking fee. The society has Public
Indemnity Cover, so that we are covered for any claim made against us.
The Society History
The Wolsztyn Experience is a mutual trust society and was set up and is run by British steam train enthusiasts to offer financial support for the continued use of scheduled steam services in Poland. The original membership was 31 life members. The founder Howard Jones was awarded the MBE for his negotiations with the Polish authorities which initially led to retaining this last steam commuter service and thus giving the opportunity for club members to sample life on the footplate.
The Society has gone from strength to strength over the last 18 years. We enjoy a unique working relationship with all rail operators, public authorities and museums. Our agreement with PKP gives the society open access to all Polish steam services and specials, subject to the appropriate payment. When we started, these payments equated to the difference between the cost of steam haulage and diesel. Since then, the introduction of more economic railcars for the remaining services and rising costs in Poland mean the monies the society pays to PKP equate to approx 10% of the depot costs.
All this has only been possible by the amazing enthusiasm for steam operation from PKP (Cargo), the Polish Authorities & Wielkapolska Railways. In addition to footplate permit fees to PKP The Wolsztyn Experience also funds other projects when funds are available.

Piazza Silvestri is located in the small town of Bevagna, in the province of Perugia. It is considered among the most significant medieval urban constructions in Umbria. The square is overlooked by the Gothic building Palazzo dei Consoli and the Romanesque churches of San Silvestro and San Michele Arcangelo.
The town is surrounded by four walls, the so called “Gaite“. They are perfectly preserved and marked by square towers through which you access the historic centre, characterised by it's long, narrow streets and very picturesque views.
No doubt the most important event is the Market of Gaite, a medieval fair during which it is recreated the daily life in Bevagna in the period between 1250 and 1350. An amazing revival! For ten days, over the last two Sundays in June, Bevagna turns back in time. The old shops resume their activities, local people wear the costumes of that epoch and live again the daily life with games and traditional crafts.
As in the past the Gaite of Bevagna, San Giorgio, San Giovanni, San Pietro and Santa Maria compete in four challenges: the market contest, the craft contest, the culinary contest, the sports contest with archery. Through a complex system of points assigned by different experts, the winner is declared on the last day of the event and receives the Palio of victory. The atmosphere during those days is truly unique!
The entire re-enactment is accompanied by performances, concerts, children’s entertainment and local cuisine. On this occasion, the Museum will be exceptionally open even at night to discover and enjoy the artistic heritage of the village.
Bevagna is located at about 30 minutes from Perugia, the Umbrian capital city and it is well connected to the towns of Foligno and Todi. It is also near to Spoleto, Montefalco and Bettona. Therefore, without driving too much you can visit several centres of considerable interest.

How Frenchy’s Restaurants Got Started
Michael Preston AKA FrenchyMichael Preston was born in Quebec, a French-speaking province of Canada. His family moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan when he was in middle school. Michael grew up in a bilingual household, so when his new friends heard him speaking French with his mom, they started calling him “Frenchy”…and it stuck.
Shortly after high school, Frenchy and some friends took a vacation to Clearwater Beach, Florida. He loved it so much that he decided to stay and get a job at a local restaurant. Frenchy worked hard learning every job as he progressed from dishwasher to manager. After eight years in the industry, he was ready to make his dream a reality – opening his own restaurant.
Frenchy’s goal was simple: to have a friendly, laid-back place where people could come to enjoy a cold drink and fresh seafood. So in 1981, Frenchy’s Original Café, the quaint restaurant on a tiny side street, opened its doors to the beach community (see images below). The Café became an instant success, with lines of people stretching out the door on a daily basis. To ensure a constant source of fresh fish to the Café, Frenchy purchased a fleet of fishing boats and eventually opened Frenchy’s Seafood Company. With these resources in place, Frenchy’s became “famous” for its fresh Super Grouper sandwich, spawning the opening of four more restaurants: Frenchy’s Saltwater Café in 1989, Frenchy’s Rockaway Grill in 1991, Frenchy’s South Beach Cafe in 2003 and Frenchy’s Outpost Bar & Grill in 2013. Three decades running, the Frenchy’s restaurants are still regarded as a staple for delicious, fresh-from-the-Gulf seafood at reasonable prices in a fun and casual beach atmosphere.
In 2010, Frenchy continued building his mini empire on Clearwater Beach with the purchase of the former Olympia Motel, located on East Shore Drive. After months of extensive renovations, Frenchy’s Oasis Motel opened, boasting a 15 unit waterfront property, classically designed in retro 60’s, offering fantastic modern accommodations.

Among Tsou tribes, Lijia is undoubtedly the most remote and secluded, a mysterious Utopia tucked away in the southern valley. Lijia is adjacent to Lijia Creek, at an altitude of 1,100 to 1,400 meters. County Highway 169 is Lijia’s only external connection, with the main roads ending here. Households in Lijia keep various plants such as bird's-nest fern, rock-ginger fern, and dendrobium orchids. Alleyways are kept clean and full of simple and natural beauty. The surrounding tall mountains are rich in natural resources.

You’ll find our camping a few kilometres south of Varberg, in the picturesque little fishing village that is colloquially called Läjet. We have 19 cottages and almost 770 camping pitches, of which 280 have got water and drainage. We also have two restaurants, which offer entertainment during peak season. We have the ”Kotte club” for the younger guests and quite a lot of treats for the four-footed friends. Dogs even have a menu of their own in the restaurant!

Shanyuan Bay is the longest sandy beach on the east coast of Taiwan. It is significant in terms of cultural and historic importance. It is the indigenous land for three Amis tribes, Jialulan, Citong, and Dulan. In the Amis language, the beach is called "Fudafudak," which means sparkling.
Indigenous activities such as gathering food and festivals take place here. Shanyuan Bay is a key part of Dulan and only 12 kilometers away from downtown Taitung. The short 15 minute drive makes Shanyuan Bay easily accessible. On the way to the beach, visitors pass by Xiaoyeliu. Check two attractions off your list when you swing by Xiaoyeliu before a day at Shanyuan Bay.

Hyères is a French town on the Mediterranean coast. Its hillside old town features the remains of a medieval castle and centuries-old walls. Nearby is the modernist arts center, Villa Noailles, set in a 1920s building with gardens. Salt marshes on the Giens peninsula attract scores of waterbirds. Just offshore, Porquerolles is one of the Golden Isles, a group of islands with beaches, trails and underwater shipwrecks.
Erasmus Bridge is a combined cable stayed and bascule bridge, construction began in 1986 and was completed in 1996. It crosses the nieuwe maas in the centre of Rotterdam, connecting the north and south parts of this city, the second largest city in the Netherlands. The bridge is 800 meters long and at its highest point, the bridge is 139 meters tall. Known as the 'erasmusbrug' in dutch, the bridge has also been lovingly nicknamed the swan (‘de zwaan’) by locals due to the distinctive shape.
Around the river, several old warehouses and a number of newer buildings now house cultural institutes and restaurants. In the distance, you can see the soaring De Rotterdam complex. The three linked towers are nearly 150 metres high, forming a ‘vertical city’ of high-class flats, a 4-star hotel, offices, shops, restaurants, fitness and parking facilities.

Alishan or Ali Mountain in Taiwan is a hugely popular tourist destination for those who love nature. This mountainous town is at an altitude of 1,403 meters, the views, the old street, and the railway are the three unforgettable things about Fenchihu Lake for those lucky enough to visit. When walking along the 500 meter long old street, you will see many vendors selling local foods, such as spicy horseradish, Aiyu seed, and tamarillo.
The sides of Fenchihu Lake are surrounded by mountains. The scene of residential houses sitting between the mountains won the place the reputation as “Joufen of Southern Taiwan.” The houses built on the mountains inconspicuously reveal the trace of time.

Sokolka is situated in the eastern part of Podlasie Vojevodship, on the edge of Knyszyn Primeval Forest, by the international road and railway route Warsaw-Bialystok-Grodno and running farther towards Minsk, Vilnius, Riga, St. Petersburg and Moscow. The municipality borders on Belarus and is situated on the territory of a future European Union’s east boundary. Sokolka municipality covers the area of 314 km2. Bangor is a town in Van Buren County in the U.S. state of Michigan. It was first organized as a town in 1854 and the population was 1,885 at the 2010 census.
It is located in the northeast corner of Bangor Township, midway between Detroit and Chicago along I-94. August, July and June are the most pleasant months in Bangor, while January and December are the least comfortable months. For a small town it has a rich history with many attractions for travellers to visit.

The small town of Ammanford lies 18 miles south east of Carmarthen in South West Wales. It is 6 miles from the famous Brecon Beacons National Park, and is the third largest town in the county of Carmarthenshire.
The river Avan flows through the town before its confluence with the river Loughor at Pantyffynnon, 1 mile south of Ammanford. The A483 road also passes through, leading to Llandeilo in the north, and joins with the M4 5 miles south west of Ammanford.

The Coolsingel is the main boulevard of Rotterdam, the second largest city in the Netherlands.
The street enhances the image of the city center in both urban and historical terms. Stretching for almost 1 kilometer, the street has interesting bars, shops and buildings on both sides. The tall eliptical building is the Beurs-World Trade Center, built in 1987. The tower is 93 metres tall and houses around 200 offices. Nearby is Rotterdam CIty Hall, which became a national monument in 1997.
Recent refurbishments and upgrades give the Coolsingel area a unique sense of style. The new Coolsingel will allow for less traffic, have a lot more trees and provide more room for pedestrians and bicyclists. The renovations carry a price tag of approximately 60 million euros. You can watch the trams go past or visit the Hofplein fountain, which lights up in various colours through the year as different events take place in the city.

The Sixhaven is located in the centre of Amsterdam on the river ‘IJ’ opposite the Central Railway Station. You can reach the Sixhaven with upright mast from the IJsselmeer (lake IJssel) and the North Sea.
The Sixhaven is conveniently situated near the centre of Amsterdam, which can be reached by ferry about 5 minutes walk from the Sixhaven.
A short ferry trip (5 minutes) will take you to the Central Railway Station. The ferries go frequently, day and night (see time-table public transport GVB).

Klin is a fairly typical city in the Moscow Region and its biggest attraction for tourists is the country estate of the great composer Pyotr Tchaikovsky which is now a museum in his honour. The city can easily be visited as a day trip from Moscow.
Klin has been mentioned in Russian chronicles since 1190s and was described by patriarch Nikon in 1317 (Никоновские хроники). Historians think its sight previously was a Baltic tribe settlement that grew into a wooden fortress of Slavic Novgorodians on the bank of the river Sestra (Sister). Town status was granted in 1781.
Owl Forest School is located in Hutoushan Park which is known as the back garden of Taoyuan. In 2012, under the premise of minimal destruction to the trees and original landscape, wooden skywalks and three tree houses were built as the Owl Forest School.
The robustly alive tree houses in the midst of vigorous aerial roots of ficus trees are filled with owl adornments.
The school comprises a hexagon Tree Classroom where visitors can closely observe the forest ecosystem. There is also an owl-shaped Whoo Whoo House where you can learn all about birds. You can visit the boat-like structure, The Green Ark where kids can perform and have fun. You can also enjoy Tarzan’s Jungle Call — a walk through the treetops via skywalk!

When the river is navigable you can enjoy the beautiful landscape along the Elbe between Děčín and Hamburg every day. The crew of the vessel consists of Captain Jaroslav Batista, boatman Kuba and several other members who can share with you the interesting things from life on the ship. Due to the fact that the boat moves along the river even outside densely populated places, it sometimes happens that the signal drops out and the transmission does not run or the image gets stuck.

Wilson, North Carolina’s story has captivated the imagination of the country. Farm machinery repairman, Vollis Simpson, began making gigantic kinetic sculptures at his family farm in Wilson County when he was nearing retirement age. He kept making his “whirligigs”–seven days a week–until about six months before he dies at the age of 94 in May of 2013. By that time he was famous. The story of Wilson’s campaign to use the renowned whirligigs to recharge its downtown has catapulted the community into the national spotlight. Grants from ArtPlace America, the Kresge Foundation, and the National Endowment for the Arts have helped the project come close to its goal of opening the Vollis Simpson Whirligig Park and Museum.

Established in 1993, Makov Animal Rescue Center accepts all injured or ill wild animals. It takes care of abandoned baby animals and provides first aid, veterinary treatment, rehabilitation, preparation for release and actual release back to nature.

A Leisurely Day in West Bay
If you want a change from the beaches and coastal walks then make for the harbour where you will also find river boats for hire. From here you can take a leisurely rowing boat trip on the River Brit through riverside meadows, but don’t forget to take a picnic. Or take a stroll over to the old station and walk along the disused railway track to Bridport where you can visit the local brewery for a spot of wine tasting!
The Coastal and Harbour Improvements
West Bay had been known as Bridport Harbour until the railway arrived in 1884. Now only the harbour itself retains that name. Over the centuries West Bay has been battered by the elements, baring the scars of numerous storm battles. A three year scheme to rebuild the coastal defences and harbour piers at a cost of £18 million was completed in the winter of 2004 / 2005. The Duke of York formally opened the completed scheme on Tuesday, 8th March 2005.
Friday Harbor, situated on San Juan Island, Washington, USA, is the main commercial centre of the San Juan Islands, in the northwest part of Washington. It can be reached by ferry from the mainland Washington as well as from the town of Sidney, in the Canadian province of British Columbia. Port of Friday Harbor offers a marina, a small airport, and Jackson beach with amenities including a free boat launch.

Villa Saint Malo, France
Saint-Malo is a port city in Brittany, in France's northwest. Tall granite walls surround the old town, which was once a stronghold for privateers (pirates approved by the king). The Saint-Malo Cathedral, in the center of the old town, is built in Romanesque and Gothic styles and features stained-glass windows depicting city history. Nearby is La Demeure de Corsaire, an 18th-century privateer’s house and museum.
Near the centre of Quimiac in North West France, you will find the large beach of Lanséria. This beautiful bay is supervised during the summer and is equipped for people with reduced mobility. It is the main beach of Quimiac. It is crowded in the summer season.
At the Plaça Mercadal in Reus, Spain you will see interesting events going on at this popular destination for locals and tourists.
Reus is a picturesque town that was once famous for the production of Brandy. Today it is a bustling town that spans 59km2 and has 100,537 inhabitants.
Reus International Airport is popular with budget airlines like RyanAir which fly in from destinations all over Europe. With a transfer time of around 1 hour 20 minutes to Barcelona, flying to Reus also offers you the possibility of obtaining a low cost flight if you can't find a cheap fare directly to Barcelona airport.
Reus is near the east coast of Spain 10 kilometres from the coast of the Costa Dorada. (Also spelt Daurada) and 111 Km from Barcelona. The nearest town on the coast is Salou which is 12 kilometres south of Reus. Other coastal towns and resorts within a half hour drive include Cambrils and La Pineda.
When traveling from Reus to Barcelona you'll pass through Tarragona. Tarragona has some stunning Roman architecture. It has been recognised by UNESCO and is worth a visit. It's feasible to travel to Tarragona from Reus to sample the nightlife as the journey by car takes around 20 minutes.

Welcome to the amazing view of the Deerfield Beach Blue. Spinner the Sea Camera sits at the bottom of the city’s landmark fishing pier, which stretches out over the ocean at nearly 1000 feet from the shoreline. Spinner’s home is located in 30-feet of water, on the pilings of the pier. Our crowning jewel is packed daily with fishermen anxious to take a bow to a tarpon or pick a fight with a feisty Barracuda.
Be prepared when you tune in to catch a glimpse of everything from a parrotfish posing for Spinner the Sea Cam, to sharks or even playful sea turtles. During the winter months, you might even see Jellyfish bouncing around the neighborhood. You will be mesmerized by the variety of multi-colored reef fish wrestling for the spotlight.

Suspended in the air, the Xiao Wulai Skywalk provides a spectacular vantage of the scenic valley and falls in Xiao Wulai in Fuxing District, Taoyuan City. The sleekly designed walkway has a tempered glass bottom and projects out 11 meters, enabling visitors to realize the dream of walking in the clouds.
The shape of skywalk was in a concise design with geometrical pattern, and tempered glass construction in the bottom. Standing on the glass platform, you are 70 meters high above the bottom of waterfall. You are welcomed to come and sense a whole new sight with the courageous challenge of standing 70 meters high. Sometimes the vapor of the waterfall interacts with the sunlight and bring a colorful rainbow in front of your eyes, which breathes extra happiness into the journey.
The skywalk is closed on Tuesdays and has a maximum capacity of 25 people. Visit times can be reserved two to 30 days in advance to help you avoid the lines.

The Geirangerfjord is one of Norway's most visited tourist sites and has been included on the UNESCO World Heritage List, along with the Nærøyfjord, since 2005.
Along the sides of this magnificent fjord, there a number of abandoned farms. The farms that are most commonly visited are Skageflå, Knivsflå and Blomberg. Skageflå can also be reached on foot from Geiranger, while the others can only be seen from the fjord.
The fjord also has several impressive waterfalls. The two most notable waterfalls in the Geirangerfjord are ‘de Syv Søstre’ (the seven sisters) and ‘Friaren’ (the suitor, also called the wooer). The two waterfalls face one another across the fjord, and the suitor is said to be trying to woo the sisters opposite.
Brudesløret (the bridal veil) is another waterfall on the fjord, thus named because it falls delicately over one rocky edge, and when seen backlit by the sun looks like a thin veil over the rocks.
Facts about the Geirangerfjord:
This stream offers a tour of the Danilikha district in the city of Perm, Russia. The camera switches between 18 different positions, giving a great overview of the area - please note that some positions are hard to see at night and during heavy weather.
Located on the banks of the Kama River, at the foot of the Ural Mountains. Perm is one of the largest cities in Russia, with around 1.2 million residents. It is one of the stops on the Trans-Siberian Railway so it gets quite a few tourists who visit the city attractions which include a zoo, museums and the opera and ballet house. For those who enjoy walking, you can stroll along the river, visit Park Gorkogo or even take a trip to the mountains for a more challenging hike.

The Brownville Food Pantry For Deer feeds approximately 400 pounds per day of native oats (local) to help sustain the white-tailed deer population through rough winters here in central Maine.
Feeding happens daily around 14: 00 (2 PM) Eastern Standard Time starting December 16 and continues to the beginning of April. These are wild deer and this is not a deer farm. Some of the deer have been coming for more than 10 years including a piebald deer with more white markings than a normal white-tailed deer.
At times there are 100 to 200 deer at the pantry. Wild turkeys also come and eat the native oats along side the deer. At times you may see up to 100 wild turkeys at once.
There is no Chronic Wasting Disease, or CWD in wild deer in Maine. These deer are all very healthy and there has never been any type of disease spread among these deer. This "Yarding" of deer happens in Maine every winter, even if they were not being fed.

Kempele Bay is a protected natural area close to the city of Oulu. This area is very popular witrh bird watchers, due to the variety of wildlife in the area, among the birds that can be seen from the birdwatching towers are green sandpiper, redshank, common buzzard, common shelduck, western marsh harrier, white-tailed eagle and many other waterbirds.
Kempele is an active and relaxed destination that is easy to reach. Events, cultural attractions, sports facilities, a shopping centre and nature make Kempele an exciting destination for a wide range of leisure activities.
The Zeppelin shopping centre and the cultural cluster built around the neighbouring Zemppi building serve visitors all year round. Holmestrand is a town in Vestfold, Norway. It is located southwest of Oslo, approximately 1 hour away. Holmestrand in Norwegian literally means small island by the beach. Holmestrand is a nice town with a charming harbour. It's nice to stroll along the harbour or if you prefer woods and hills, it's possible to go for long walks through the countryside. In the winter, good skiing is available.
Holmestrand Brygge will be a newly built quarter with about 80 apartments, over 1000 m2 of commercial premises, and a new green lung in the city. The start of construction was in March 2019 and the project will be completed during the first quarter of 2021.
Asplan Viak's architects have been selected as partners in the development of the project. Their proposals for solutions are very good with a view to further urban development and making the center of Holmestrand attractive as a place to live, shop and work in.
